Can a garment be made in such a way that consumers can practice sustainability while having fun expressing themselves?
Founded in 2021, the US-based label Notion Abstract was created after a discussion on different ways of practicing sustainability. As emerging organizations and technologies help clothing brands to put less pressure on our planet, people - as consumers - can practice sustainability even after a product is purchased.
Our passion for innovative and sustainable design, minimal aesthetics, quality and attention to detail led to the birth of our first collection - The Parallel Zip Sweatshirt. The interchangeable side panels reduce unnecessary washing while consumers can actively participate in the wearing experience by experimenting with color switching and zipper styling.
Sourced solely within the United States, from materials to production, our clothing is designed in North Carolina and handmade in California. We work with suppliers that are also practicing sustainability to ensure our organic cotton fabrics are produced with less impact on the environment. We believe good design helps solve problems and doesn't have to come at the cost of aesthetics.

From idea to design
The use of zippers on garments couldn't be more common, either functionally or decoratively. However, the idea to use zippers to create interchangable side panels on a sweatshirt hasn't been done before. The uniqueness of the concept alone was worth the risk and work to bring it to life.
It wasn't easy. When it came to the actual design, there was much to consider. Would such a long zipper function as imagined? Could the side panels really be sewn to be interchangeable? These questions and more had to be answered through trial and error.
Our passion is embedded within the brand's name, Notion Abstract. We think through differing lenses to challenge norms with new concepts, experimenting with and bringing abstract ideas to life with the intention of offering the world new possibilities to practice sustainability, in style and aesthetics. Our journey has just started and we hope you will be part of it.
